The bridge over the railway in Csíkszereda was handed over by STRABAG

The renovated railway overpass of Miercurea, which connects the DN13A highway to Odorheiu Secuiesc with the city centre, was opened to traffic on Friday.

The old viaduct, which was handed over fifty years ago, had deteriorated so badly due to the continuous corrosion of the concrete beams that its renovation could no longer be postponed. Two years ago, the city council signed a contract with the winner of the public procurement procedure, STRABAG Kft., which over the last 19 months has demolished the old overpass beams and expanded it with a 1.5-metre pedestrian lane and a 1-metre bicycle lane, effectively rebuilding it. a 500-metre-long overpass with one traffic lane in each direction, including ramps, whose load-bearing capacity was tested last week with 34 lorries, each carrying 30 tonnes (loaded with gravel).

Attila Korodi Attila, mayor of Csíkszereda said at the inauguration ceremony on Friday:

The renovated railway overpass is a link between the city's past, present and future, a bond between neighbours and a symbol of the city's unity.

He added: the new flyover was built with modern technology, not fifty, but a hundred years, and since it connects not only Miskolc with Odorheiu Secuiesc, but also the former "rural part of the city", Ligat, which is the place of economic development and numerous businesses, with the city centre, it was named Ligat Bridge.

Vice-Mayor Béla Bors said at the inauguration ceremony that the city received 17 million lei (budget and EU) for the 60 million lei (4.6 billion HUF) investment, the rest being contributed by the taxpayers of Chiucszereda.
