M7: construction of the new Venice bridge continues at the weekend with night-time traffic restrictions

On Saturday, 18 October, from 10 p.m., the M7 motorway towards Lake Balaton will be closed between km 44 and km 46, expected to remain closed until Sunday noon. The reason for the closure is to install additional elements of the new pedestrian and bicycle bridge in Velence, according to the M7 motorway operator MKIF Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. During this period, traffic will be diverted to the inner lane on the Budapest side, so that during the night work, traffic will be able to use 1 lane towards Lake Balaton. In the direction of the capital, 2 lanes will be provided. During the restriction, the Venice rest area and the junction will also be closed.

MKIF explains that the technical studies carried out show that it would be more expensive to renovate the old bridge than to build a new one, and that, in addition to the technical condition of the structure, the fact that the widened track would no longer fit underneath it when the M7 motorway is widened in 2027, was another reason for its demolition.
