Energy storage systems are being used to improve the stability of weather-dependent electricity generation

The project involved three sites: in Szabadbattyán, with an installed capacity of 3.450 MW and 7.588 M

The investment involved three sites: An energy storage facility with an installed capacity of 3.450 MW and a capacity of 7.588 MWh was completed in Szabadbattyán; one with a capacity of 4.743 MW and a capacity of 11.381 MWh in Lajosmizse; and one with a capacity of 5.970 MW and a capacity of 15.176 MWh in Nyírmeggyes. With the completion of the project, energy storage facilities with an installed capacity of 5,608 MW and a capacity of 34,145 MWh have been realised.

The systems are capable of feeding data in or out for more than two hours

Once installed, lithium-ion energy storage systems are capable of feeding electricity into or drawing it from the grid at maximum capacity for more than two hours without interruption. This is particularly important for the system-wide management of weather-dependent renewable generation, as energy storage systems can also help to balance out time-based discrepancies between generation and consumption.
This development improves the controllability of renewable energy-based generation and may contribute to a higher share of renewable energy in electricity generation. The project may facilitate the establishment and grid connection of new generation facilities based on renewable energy sources.

The use of EU funds also contributed to the development

The total cost of the project was 3,102,895,389 forints. The project was carried out with funding from the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF), co-financed by the European Union, using a non-repayable grant of 684,975,197 forints. The PLOOP Kft. project contributes to the more flexible operation of the domestic electricity system, the more efficient utilisation of renewable energy sources, and the expansion of sustainable energy generation.
