Wind energy tenders are now open; technical compliance alone is not enough
The Hungarian Energy and Public Utility Regulatory Authority (MEKH) has published a call for tenders for the allocation of available capacity on the medium- and high-voltage grids, with a submission deadline of 30 October 2026. Applicants must have at least
- 14 MVA feed-in capacity and
- A wind farm with an installed capacity of 14 MW
must submit a bid. The benefit to be obtained through the tender is the network connection right , in return for which the successful bidder must fulfil significant investment, security, local contribution and other commitments.
This is where the wind turbines are being built
Investors may submit bids for nine network nodes across six districts , where the total available and allocable feed-in capacity is 702 megavolt-amperes (MVA).

Preference for EU-manufactured equipment and brownfield sites
The call for entries distinguishes between mandatory and competitive criteria. For an application to be valid, it must meet two key criteria:
- the applicant must undertake to grant a 25 per cent right of first refusal to the renewable energy community or communities designated by the Government,
- as well as the implementation of mandatory TMÁ investments at those network nodes where this is required (transfer free of charge).
Once the compulsory requirements have been met, a competitive selection process begins, and applicants are ranked on the basis of pre-defined comparison criteria and a points system:

The call for tenders was preceded by substantial preparatory work, during which the Office carried out a nationwide, public market survey in order to identify the anticipated grid connection requirements for wind farm developments and to gain an accurate picture of the readiness of the planned investments.
Results up to 13 December
The Office will accept applications from 4 September 2026 via the Magyarorszag.hu – Personalised Administration Portal (SZÜF) by completing the form provided there, the link to which will be published on its website.
The deadline for submission is 30 October 2026. Thereafter, MEKH will carry out the tasks relating to the technical evaluation of the applications and, once the procedure has been concluded, will publish the results on its website by 13 December 2026 at the latest.
The call for tenders also specifies the timeframe for network connection. The earliest connection date is 30 September 2030, whilst the actual connection date for the relevant network node must be specified in the connection plan and in the network connection agreement, provided that no connection date later than 30 September 2032 may be specified.
The call for applications and the related documents are available on the MEKH website.
