According to the NOB, the National Athletics Centre in Budapest is one of the best sports buildings in the world.
The National Athletics Centre has once again received a globally recognised award: the facility won the prestigious architecture award from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities (IAKS). The award was presented in Cologne at the gala ceremony of the 29th IAKS Congress, which celebrated the world's leading sports architecture – writes in its announcement published on Facebook.
The award was accepted by Zoltán Nyul, Deputy State Secretary for Building Construction, representing ÉKM. The jury selected the Budapest centre from among 69 entries from 25 countries, which proved to be the best in the category of sustainable, accessible and innovative sports facilities.
The ministry notes that the National Athletics Centre, which will be handed over in 2024, is part of the ÉKM investment, ZÁÉV Zrt. and Magyar Építő Zrt. consortium, under the leadership of Marcell Ferencz, winner of the Kossuth, Ybl and Pro Architectura awards.
The award is further proof that Hungarian architecture occupies a worthy place at the forefront of international design and is capable of creating sports facilities that serve the community, sport and the future at the same time, according to the statement.
