Upgrading this railway line from Austria to Sopron

Instead of diesel trains, in future only electric trains will arrive at Sopron station from Austria on this line.

The Mattersburgerbahn railway line, which runs from Wiener Neustadt via Mattersburg to the Loipersbach-Schattendorf border crossing to Sopron, according to a report by Austrian public broadcaster ORF, as reported by magyarhirlap.hu.

The improvements will see more level crossings replaced by underpasses and overpasses, improving safety for road users.

The line concerned by the project

Six stations along the line will be renewed:

  • Katzelsdorf,
  • Neudörfl,
  • Bad Sauerbrunn,
  • Mattersburg North,
  • Marz-Rohrbach
  • and Loipersbach-Schattendorf.

They will all have barrier-free platforms and upgraded passenger information systems. On this line, diesel traction will be replaced by electric traction, which will reduce costs and environmental impact.
