An audiovisual centre in Veszprém built from an unused Baroque building

A new audiovisual centre has been inaugurated in the Veszprém Castle district with the support of the Veszprém-Balaton 2023 European Capital of Culture programme. The three-storey facility was built by Kuti és Fia Kft. by converting the annex of the former Simoga House, at a cost of HUF 2.5 billion.

The new centre, located at 17 Vár Street, was born from the conversion and extension of the former baroque annex of Simoga House, which has been unused for the last few years.

Screenings can also be organised on the open-air stage

The Audiovisual Centre has a 62-seat auditorium for concerts of light and classical music, theatre and chamber music, public meetings, film screenings and conferences. The basement houses the Fixír media lab, where workshops on the latest technologies will be held. The building's ornamental garden will be used as a relaxation garden and the outdoor stage will be used for screenings and performances, among other activities.

At the inauguration ceremony of the building, which will host a number of programmes in the future, Gergely Gulyás, Minister of the Prime Minister's Office, stressed that the facility could become another bastion of Hungarian cinema. He stressed that films are the artistic works that reach the most people nowadays and are thus able to effectively shape people's thinking.
