Békésszentandrás water development just completed is also important for nature conservation

A sewage treatment plant was built in Békésszentandrás, Békés County, with 1.7 billion forints in EU funding, the local government announced on 21 September. The funding was obtained from the EU's Environment and Energy Efficiency Operational Programme (KEHOP), and construction began in the spring of 2019. The work was carried out by Magyar Vakond Út és Építőipari Kft..

The new plant was built on the site of the old one

The upgraded plant was built on the site of the existing wastewater treatment plant, with a hydraulic capacity of 660 cubic metres per day and a biological load capacity of 5,977 population equivalent, they said. The project also included the construction of 1,050 metres of sewage pipeline in the municipality of about 3,400 inhabitants near Szarvas.

The development of the wastewater treatment plant in Békésszentandrás was the largest municipal investment in the last 20 years

- said Mayor Imre Sinka.

The development is also important because it means that the treated wastewater will not be discharged into the municipality's largest and most precious natural resource, the estuary, but into the Three Gorges, which is a much larger receiving body of water in terms of water quality.
