One of Budapest's most popular squares to be renovated

Liszt Ferenc Square between Andrássy út and Paulay Ede utca would be made more transparent and safer for pedestrians and people resting on the square.

In the 1320 square metres of the area to be renovated, 623 square metres of green space will be renewed and an automatic irrigation system will be installed.

A new decorative paving will also be installed, which will cover about 490 square metres of concrete and more than 100 square metres of limestone. There will also be 37 new pieces of street furniture in the affected area.

Making space transparent

As part of the square layout, the ramped transition between even and odd sides and the division by raised beds will be eliminated, as it impedes the transparency of the square and poses a public safety risk.
The area around the Ady Endre statue will be paved in the same way as the original, and the green space around the statue will be redesigned to support pedestrian traffic. After restoration, the limestone bench near the statue will be returned to its current location.

More light in the night

Based on experience and feedback from the public, the square's street lighting will also be redesigned. New chandeliers will be installed near the Liszt Ferenc statue. The lighting fixtures of the former promenade will be relocated to improve the feeling of safety for the square's users after dark. New sockets will be installed on these chandeliers to provide decorative lighting for small events in the square.

Drinking fountains and a shelter will help you endure the heat

The redevelopment of the square will include a drinking fountain and the area behind the Liszt Ferenc statue will be rearranged to allow the installation of five humidifier nozzles in the paving.

A call for tender has already been published for the implementation of the project. It also stipulates that during the works on the square, it must be ensured not only safe pedestrian access, but also access to shops and properties for the delivery of goods and for ambulances and fire brigades.
