The value of the grants is HUF 1.5 billion and the total cost of the investments is HUF 2.5 billion.

This year, the Ministry of Public Administration and Regional Development's State Secretariat for Active Hungary is supporting the creation of 47 new bike parks, more than ever before. This will create almost two hundred trails for cyclists to relax and lead an active lifestyle

- the State Secretariat said on Thursday.

According to the announcement, bike parks financed under the Active Hungary Programme have been built since 2020, and this year 47 bike parks have received funding worth nearly HUF 1.5 billion, with the total cost of the investments amounting to almost HUF 2.5 billion.

The aid intensity is up to 60 percent, but can be as high as 80 percent in disadvantaged municipalities, they said.

From big cities to small towns

Thanks to this year's grants, there will be new bike parks in larger cities - such as Kecskemét, Sátoraljaújhely or Tiszakécske -, in agglomeration settlements such as Nagykovácsi, Pécel or Piliscsaba, but also in small villages of 2-3 thousand inhabitants such as Bükkábrány, Kóny or Tokod.

The State Secretariat has already awarded more than HUF 3.7 billion in grants to the applicant municipalities and associations over six years, from which a total of 186 bike parks can be established, they said.

The construction of the bike parks will be carried out under the professional supervision of the Hungarian Cycling Tourism Association (MAKETUSZ), they said.

Pump tracks, forest paths

The majority of the improvements are pump tracks: solid-surface circuits with hills and banked corners. On these tracks, the cyclist moves the bike not by pedalling but by well-timed body movements (pumping). The pump tracks are suitable for all ages and abilities," they added.

There are also forest trails (single trails), dirt and freeride trails for bigger jumps, and BMX tracks.

The exact locations and track types can be viewed at map available here.
