The MTA celebrates its 200th anniversary in a renewed setting
The Hungarian Academy of Sciences has posted a spectacular video about its work on its Facebook page. As previously mentioned, the institution will celebrate its 200th anniversary in a partially renovated building. The construction was carried out by Fejér-B.Á.L. Zrt., Épkar Zrt. and Vitruvius Kft. consortium.
On 5 May 2025, the 199th ceremonial general meeting of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences commenced. As can be read on the MTA website, one of the biggest tasks in the first phase was the complete renovation of the roof, which could no longer be postponed due to leaks and the ageing of the structure.
The Ceremonial Hall has also been renewed based on a new interior design concept. In addition to a complete mechanical, power and low-voltage renovation, it has a new audiovisual system, lighting and modular equipment that can be adapted to the event. A major change in the Ceremonial Hall is that the Lotz sculptures, wall paintings and sculptures were completely restored in the first phase of the project, instead of the second. Work on the glass roof and façade has also been completed.

Key engineering works have also been completed
As part of the first phase, the third-floor Picture Gallery, which displays the treasures of the Art Collection, was also renovated, and new exhibition spaces are available in the roof space of the Danube wing.
A part of the less spectacular, but all the more important, technical work was to check the functioning of the mechanical and electrical components. Although it was not in the original plans, it became clear during the work that the replacement of the water pipes for the heating system could not be postponed any longer.
This was done by the contractor in a way that did not require any additional expenditure for the MTA, they said.
