Major investments to renovate several well-known domestic hotels

This year, the Danubius Hotels hotel chain plans to spend an unprecedented HUF 13 billion on investments from its own resources, after spending HUF 35 billion on the renewal of its hotels over the past five years, the company said.

The hotel chain, owned by UK-based CP Holdings Ltd, owns and operates spa, wellness and city hotels in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Romania, and operates in the UK. In Hungary they operate a total of 16 hotels, including spa and wellness hotels under the Ensana brand.

Focus on sustainability

The company's hotel buildings are of different styles and ages, built from the late 19th to the late 20th century, including historic buildings. Upgrading them requires a completely different business mindset from new-build greenfield hotel investments, which are designed with the environment in mind, they note.

In addition to aesthetic renewal, the aim is also to modernise the energy efficiency of the building in the long term. Balázs Kovács, General Manager of Danubius Hotels Zrt., pointed out in the press release that it is important for their hotels to be sustainable from an energy point of view and to be renewed in an environmentally conscious way, therefore a significant proportion of the investment is allocated to such improvements.

Polar panels and heat pumps are being installed, and more and more environmentally friendly materials are being used. Discarded equipment is recycled or donated to charity, while plastics and unnecessary packaging are being cut back

Spectacular developments in the spa town and in the capital

During the renovation of Danubius Hotel Bük, the new lobby, bar and reception area were completely redesigned to match the style of the previously designed rooms and opened in spring 2025. One of the most popular family hotels of Danubius Hotels is the Bük, where a new wellness area has been built in recent years with a complete renovation of the sauna area. The renovation will continue this year with the renewal of the indoor pool area and the modernisation of rooms on another entire floor, they said.

In the Budapest Danubius Hotel Hungaria, Hungary's largest hotel, besides the new lobby opened last year, two conference rooms have been renewed this year and the aesthetic transformation of the rooms has started, the company said in a statement.

Aesthetic works already completed in several hotels

The renovation of the Danubius Hotel Helia on the banks of the Danube in Pest was completed in April 2025. The hotel has been renovated to its full capacity of 262 premium rooms and suites with smart features. The conference space, lobby and restaurants have been renovated over the past few years, and new apartments and suites have been added, it was explained.

The renovation of the rooms at the Danubius Hotel Annabella in Balatonfüred started in 2024, when two entire floors of rooms were renovated. In preparation for the 2025 season, the hotel offers a total of 265 premium rooms and 6 premium suites on four floors.
