A cycle path through the magical landscapes of Zemplén is being built

A new cycle path is being built in Zemplén between Pálháza and Hollóháza, constructed by HE-DO. According to the news on the contractor's website, the project will fill in the missing sections of the cycle route between the two towns.

Nearly 6 kilometres of new cycle paths to be created

The project will improve the cycle path network connecting the villages of Pálháza, Bózsva, Nyíri, Füzérkomlós and Hollóháza. A total of 5.91 kilometres of cycle paths will be built from the administrative borders of Füzérkomlós and Nyíri, through the municipalities of Bózsva and Pálháza.

The project will also include the rehabilitation of two bridges and the reconstruction of a bridge, as well as the improvement of the street lighting network, the construction of drainage systems, the painting of pavement signs and the installation of road signs.

The development is part of the Tokaj-Zemplén Regional Development Programme: it is jointly financed by the municipalities of Nyíri, Bózsva and Pálháza.

The first section to open will be the Pálháza section

As there is a NATURA 2000 protected area on both sides of the route, some sections of the works require special attention. "We will make sure that the project does not cause any damage to the local ecosystem," said Zoltán Vidó, HE-DO's chief architect.

The contractor HE-DO will open each section to cyclists in a scheduled manner:

• Pálháza section until 6 May 2025
• Bózsva section until 5 July 2025,
• while the Nyiri section will be open to cyclists by 8 September 2025.

In the HE-DO news, the status of the project is also described. According to this, at the moment, the HE-DO specialists have carried out preparatory works on the border of the municipality of Nyíri for a length of about 1 km, and, in addition to the construction of the ballast layer, the demolition and foundation of the bridge to be rebuilt has started.

On the border between Bózsva and Pálháza, tree felling, brush and shrub clearance has been completed and the next step will be the preparation of the subsoil and the construction of the bedding layer.
