This solution serves the purpose of keeping the embankment strong during the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge.

Despite the winter weather and persistent frost, preparatory work on the expansion of the M1 motorway expansion project are progressing steadily, according to a report on the Facebook page of MKIF – Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt.

Since early January, work has been carried out at more than 60 locations and on nearly half a dozen different work processes on the M0–Tatabánya and Komárom–Concó sections.

The conversion of intersecting structures and facilities is underway.

There are a number of tasks currently underway that are not necessarily visible to travellers from the main track, but which are essential for the next phases of the expansion to begin. These mainly relate to utility replacements, bridge and road construction works, and the development of traffic control and environmental protection facilities.

On the section affected by the M1 expansion, the crossing structures and facilities are being rebuilt prior to the widening of the road.

Work is currently underway on approximately 75 per cent of the bridges, affecting a total of 54 structures.

At several locations, the beams of the bridge structures have already been lifted above the track, and at one site, the track slab has also been concreted.

In addition to bridge construction, embankment foundation and construction works, as well as the application of so-called slab levelling technology, will also play a significant role. There are several bridges on the section to be expanded that require this solution for widening.

The purpose of the sheet piling is to ensure the stability of the embankment during the demolition and reconstruction of the bridge.

The photos of the current phase of work were taken on Torbágyi Road, which connects Biatorbágy and Páty. According to plans, this section of the road will be partially opened to traffic by the end of April 2026. This means that in the spring, motorists will be able to travel here in one lane in alternating directions, controlled by traffic lights.
