A wave of road resurfacing is underway in Nógrád County: the HE-DO is working on numerous sections

Published

The aim of the improvements is to resolve the problems caused by worn-out road surfaces, poor drainage and outdated traffic management systems.

As part of the HE-DO project, work is set to begin or is already underway on the development of nine public roads in Nógrád County. The client for these investments is Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt., and the projects are being implemented using funds from the EU-financed TOP Plusz programme.

Roadworks are taking place between Galgaguta and Jobbágyi

Modernisation work is currently underway on several sections of the Galgaguta–Jobbágyi link road (road number 2129). Construction began in November 2025 but was temporarily suspended due to winter road maintenance, before resuming in February and March 2026.

As part of the project, the road surface will be renewed, the road structure will be replaced in sections with low load-bearing capacity, and a new two-layer asphalt surface will be laid. In addition, the drainage systems, ditches and culverts will be cleaned and refurbished, and traffic control elements will also be renewed.

The works included tree felling, shrub clearance and landscaping; following the reinforcement of the road surface, the next steps will be the laying of new asphalt layers, the construction of kerbs and the renewal of road markings. In certain sections of the project, the tasks also include the renovation of bridges and the modernisation of bus stops and kerbs.

The project is being carried out in several phases and is expected to be completed between May and July 2026. KM Építő Kft. is carrying out hydraulic engineering, preparatory and bridge renovation works on the project.

Construction work is continuing in the Galgaguta area

A section of the Balassagyarmat–Aszód link road (No. 2108), approximately 2 kilometres long, is being upgraded between Galgaguta and the county border. The worksite was handed over back in December 2025, but construction was temporarily suspended due to the winter season. Work resumed in February 2026.

During the renovation, the road surface will be renewed, the road structure will be replaced on sections with lower load-bearing capacity, and a modern asphalt layer will be laid. In addition, the drainage system and traffic management elements will also be upgraded. In preparation for the works, trees have been felled, shrubs cleared and landscaping carried out. The project is scheduled for completion by early May 2026.

Bridge renovation is also part of the modernisation project in Pásztó

Work began in February 2026 on a 1.3-kilometre section of the Pásztó–Szurdokpüspöki link road (road number 2407). The project involves a complete resurfacing of the road, as well as the renewal of the drainage systems and traffic management features.

As part of the project, the arch bridge at kilometre marker 3+418 will also be renovated: it will be fitted with new insulation, its drainage system will be modernised, and comprehensive concrete surface protection will be installed. The bridge modernisation work is being carried out by KM Építő Kft.. Construction is expected to be completed in early June 2026.

A town gateway is being built near Mátrakeresztes

A so-called ‘town gateway’ is being built on a short, 109-metre section of the Pásztó–Galyatető–Mátraháza road (No. 2408) on the outskirts of Mátrakeresztes. Construction began in early March 2026.

The aim of the project is to reduce the speed of vehicles entering the town, thereby improving road safety and reducing noise pollution. The works will involve resurfacing the road, upgrading the drainage system, constructing kerbs on both sides and installing modern traffic management systems. The works are scheduled for completion by mid-April 2026.

A roundabout is being built on the outskirts of Pásztó

Major redevelopment work is set to begin at the junction located within the administrative area of Pásztó: the current crossroads is to be converted into a single-lane roundabout. The handover of the construction site took place in mid-March 2026.

The junction used to be a three-way junction, but with the construction of a new road leading to an industrial estate, it became a four-way junction, making it necessary to introduce a safer traffic layout. Alongside the construction of the roundabout, utility lines are being relocated, and the access roads, pavements and cycle paths are being upgraded, as is the drainage system.

One of the unique features of the project is that a temporary diversion route will need to be built for the duration of the works to keep traffic flowing. The project is expected to be completed in September 2026.

More than three kilometres of road are being resurfaced in the Cserháthaláp area

A section of the Cserháthaláp–Szanda link road (No. 2124) measuring nearly 3.1 kilometres is being upgraded between Cserháthaláp and Terény. The contractor took over the site in mid-March 2026.

The project involves a complete resurfacing of the road, including replacement of the road structure where necessary. In addition, the drainage systems and traffic control elements will also be upgraded. The works are scheduled for completion in mid-June 2026.

The access road to Hollókő is also being upgraded

A section of the access road leading to Hollókő, stretching over two kilometres, is also being renovated. Work cannot begin until after the traditional Easter celebrations, so the site is expected to be handed over on 20 April 2026.

The works will involve resurfacing the road, upgrading the drainage system and traffic management infrastructure. As part of the project, the bridge over the Zsunyi Stream will also be renovated, and the bus bays within the town centre will be resurfaced with basalt concrete. The bridge upgrade will be carried out by KM Építő Kft.. Construction is expected to last until the end of July 2026.

The Zagyva Bridge in Bátonyterenye is also being renovated

The Nagybátony–Maconka link road (No. 2409) is to be upgraded over a stretch of approximately 800 metres within the built-up area of Bátonyterenye. Work is expected to begin in mid-April 2026.

As part of the project, not only will the road surface be resurfaced, but the Zagyva Bridge will also be renovated, featuring new insulation and a modern drainage system. In addition, the bus bays will be rebuilt with basalt concrete paving, and the connecting pavements will also be renewed. The bridge renovation is being carried out by KM Építő Kft., and the works are expected to be completed by the end of July 2026.

Plans also include the renovation of a footbridge in Dorogháza

Modernisation work is set to begin on a section of the Dorogháza access road (road number 24108) stretching over two kilometres. The worksite was handed over on 9 March 2026.

As part of the project, the road surface and drainage system will be renovated, and the traffic management systems will be modernised. The project also includes the renovation of the brick-vaulted bridge over the Ménkes Stream, which will be fitted with new insulation and comprehensive concrete surface protection. The modernisation of the bridge structure is being carried out by KM Építő Kft., with completion of the works scheduled for early July 2026.

Following these upgrades, safer and more comfortable travel is expected on the affected sections of road in Nógrád County.
