One investment improves the security of drinking water supply in three towns in the Hajdúság region
Seventeen billion forints of European Union and domestic funds will be used to implement the drinking water safety improvement programme in the settlements of Balmazújváros, Hajdúnánás and Hajdúböszörmény, the Minister of State for Water Utilities of the Ministry of Energy said in Hajdúnánás on Monday morning.
Zsolt V. Németh stressed that in Hungary almost 100 percent of households have access to drinking water, while in Romania the figure is only 74 percent, so in the next period other types of development are needed, such as increasing the security of drinking water supply.
It is important that drinking water is always available
This is the aim of the project Tiszamenti Regionális Vízművek Zrt. (TVR Zrt.) and Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium, a consortium of the Eastern Main Canal's Surface Water Treatment Plant, which will build a pair of transmission lines to the three cities.
In addition, in Hajdúnánás, a 46-metre high, 1,000-cubic-metre water tower will be built to replace the existing 150-cubic-metre water tower

Tamás Fábrik, Technical Director of TVR Zrt., stressed that the digital skills of professionals play a significant role in achieving safe drinking water.
Gábor Füzék, the project leader of Mészáros és Mészáros Építőipari Zrt., said that one of the most important tasks is the preservation of the groundwater. The 71-kilometre-long twin transmission line and the water tower in Hajdúnánás will be completed in 910 days, by mid-November this year.
