This investment solves a serious problem at the popular Lake Nógrád

On 6 September, a project aimed at improving sewage disposal and treatment in the Rétság agglomeration was launched in Bánk, Nógrád County. The contractor for the HUF 5.5 billion development project, which will begin in Bánk, Tolmács and Rétság, is the Colas Alterra Zrt., Veolia Water Zrt., SADE-Magyarország Mélyépítő Kft. consortium, according to public public procurement data.

Tolmács had no sewerage network at all

At the event, József Bózvári, President of the Nógrád County Chamber of Engineers, as the project designer, explained that a new regional biological wastewater treatment plant with activated sludge will be established in Bánk and the sewer network will be expanded. In Tolmachak, a new sewerage network will be built, to which all properties will be connected. In Rétság, the network will be reconstructed. The works will be completed by the end of 2025.

Mihály Balla, the Fidesz MP of the region, said that a big problem will be solved, as there was no sewerage network at all in Tolmács, and the purity of the 7-hectare Bánki Lake, which is popular in the region and known throughout the country, is endangered in Bánko.

The number of domestic wastewater treatment plants has doubled in ten years

The opening event of the development was attended by Tamás Rentz, Deputy State Secretary for Water Management of the Ministry of Energy. He pointed out that the number of wastewater treatment plants in Hungary has doubled in the last ten years, and the current volume of wastewater treatment plants exceeds the EU average. He recalled the objective to ensure that settlements with a population of less than 2,000 are able to drain and treat their waste water.

Andrea Torma, Mayor of Bánk, said: the regional investment won HUF 5 billion 41 million in non-refundable EU funding under the Operational Programme for Environment and Energy Efficiency. The project was supported by the government with HUF 541 million, and the consortium leader of the project is Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium. The investment will solve the problem of safe disposal of wastewater and compliance with increasingly stringent environmental limits for decades to come, the mayor said.
