The wastewater treatment project in Tatabánya is paving the way for industrial growth
On behalf of Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium, Mészáros és Mészáros Ipari, Kereskedelmi és Szolgáltató Zrt. has been awarded the contract for the comprehensive design and construction of the Tatabánya wastewater treatment plant and associated facilities – as reported on TED. The value of the project is nearly 13.5 billion forints.
A significant expansion of capacity is taking place
The current Tatabánya wastewater treatment plant has a nominal hydraulic capacity of 16,000 m³/day and a biological capacity of 109,416 population equivalents (PE). As a result of the development, these figures will increase significantly:
- with a hydraulic capacity of 23,877 m³/day,
- and the biological capacity rises to 224,876 LE (average) and 308,417 LE (85% durability).
As part of the project, a new treatment plant with a capacity of 10,000 m³/day will also be built, consisting of four parallel lines.
State-of-the-art technologies and new facilities
A key element of the project is the modernisation of the existing plant and the expansion of its capacity. As part of this, the following improvements will be made, amongst other things
- the pumping station,
- the pre-mechanical system,
- the air blowers
- and the sludge-lifting machine room.
As part of the construction of the new treatment plant, primary and secondary clarifiers and biological treatment units will be built, and UV-based disinfection technology will also be employed. In addition, a membrane-based post-treatment system will be installed, covering the entire capacity.
Network development and refurbishments
The project involves not only improvements within the site but also the associated infrastructure. During the development of the sewerage network
- a section of the Old Town’s main sewer, approximately 1,100 metres in length, is being replaced with NA1000 PVC piping,
- they will replace the entire length of the sludge pressure pipeline (2×3500 m NA200 KPE) between the wastewater treatment plant and the Szentgyörgypuszta sludge treatment plant, and will also construct a new 3500 m long standby pipeline,
- In addition, 33 public pumping stations are being renovated, involving electrical, control systems, structural and mechanical engineering works.
Szentgyörgypuszta is also developing
Significant improvements are also being made at the sludge treatment plant in Szentgyörgypuszta. A new suction-fed sewage reception and pre-treatment facility is being built to replace the existing one, and the sludge dewatering technology is also being upgraded.
