Quality of life for families in difficult circumstances improved through the charitable work of Szabadics

At the Red Cross Temporary Family Home in Nagykanizsa, parents, mothers and children who have sought protection or have become homeless due to lifestyle problems or other family crises are given a new chance at life. The improvements made by SZABADICS Építőipari Zrt through its charitable work mean a great deal to them.

The leading construction company of Western Hungary renovated the upstairs bathroom of the institution, thanks to which the residents can now perform their basic sanitary needs in decent conditions. This will greatly contribute to improving their comfort.

The new part was inaugurated on 22 March 2024.

„CSR activities and social responsibility are important to our group of companies. We strive to make every effort within our means to support numerous events and associations that are important to us. We operate the Szabadics for Children Foundation and organise the country's largest corporate cycling race every year, the Szabadics Ride-ot” – said Szabadics Roland, the company's chief operating officer, to our newspaper.

Supporting areas or causes that are in the vicinity of their headquarters and help improve the conditions of those in need is a priority for the company.

From one good deed to another

The company has previously carried out garden and playground renovation work in the same home - also for charitable purposes. The head of the institution indicated that the water blocks were also in a very dilapidated state. Szabadics was already willing to help again.

"We have decided that when our internal capacity and that of our partners allows, we will offer the institution the internal renovation of this building", added Roland Szabadics.

This was welcomed by the manager of the home, as it coincided with his plans for the future.

The company finally carried out the reconstruction worth about HUF 15 million together with its partner companies in Nagykanizsa, which, when they learned that it was being carried out in the framework of social engagement, were granted significant discounts during the construction.

Comprehensive and practical renovation

With the work of Szabadics Építőipari Zrt., the complete renovation (architectural, mechanical and electrical) of the upstairs bathroom of the building has been completed, Görgy Tormási, the head of the construction department told us.

• Internal plaster replacement behind the side wall cladding eliminated 112 square metres of mouldy walls;
• in the same building the side wall cladding was replaced, with waterproofing in the showers;
• about 120 square metres of the old, multi-layered wall surfaces were scraped off, then re-glued and repainted;
• replaced 25.6 square metres of concrete subfloor;
• the interior doors were replaced with steel frames and cylinder security locks;
• non-slip floor coverings have been installed;
• a completely new water, waste water and heating system was installed in the affected premises, with the installation of intermittent fittings.

5 new washbasins, 4 new built-in showers with partition walls, a barred passage, wall fittings and 6 new toilets with complete fittings were installed. New extraction systems were installed in both the shower and toilet rooms. In addition, a new electrical distribution and power supply, new wiring, local switching and motion sensor lights were installed.

The work took just one and a half months. The improvements will help to raise the level of service provided by the organisation and improve the quality of life of the 40 or so people living in the home.
