Professionalism made easy - that's what the DUNA GROUP Open University was like
The largest construction science student event in Hungary has come to a successful close. At the sixth DUNA GROUP Open University gave participants a three-day insight into the everyday work of road and bridge construction, the application of infraBIM technology, and how environmental considerations influence construction processes.
The event, aimed at the next generation of engineers in the Hungarian construction industry, was launched on Friday morning, 26 September, at the Budapest office of DUNA GROUP in Budapest. Over the next two days, the students visited one of the country's largest infrastructure projects, the Danube bridge in Mohács and the associated road network. Beatrix Szabó, President and CEO of Duna Aszfalt Zrt., opened the event by encouraging young people to dare to take the lead in new processes.
Personalised knowledge transfer, from experienced professionals
A key aim of the organisers was to foster commitment and a sense of mission in young people. Accordingly, during the intensive three days, they were able to acquire truly useful professional knowledge from the most eminent professionals. And the weather was kind to the organisers, with sunshine and pleasant temperatures helping to make the outdoor activities a success.
The students learned about road construction, bridge building and the use of infraBIM in theory as well as in the field.
And as the projects are designed to meet the highest environmental standards, emphasis was also placed on demonstrating this.
A particular highlight was the development of students„ soft skills, such as live speaking, which was uniformly perceived as a useful and truly developmental exercise by students, according to the questionnaires completed after the event.
Next year will be even better
The DUNA GROUP Open University has now established a tradition of bridging the gap between academic theory and industry practice. The programme has proven that young engineers want knowledge, experience and community - and the Free University excels in all three.
