The entire structure of a 700-square-metre house was completed in four weeks.
CLT (Cross-Laminated Timber) houses offer a number of significant advantages, especially when compared to traditional construction methods. Wood is a natural, renewable resource that:
- captures and stores CO₂, reducing the ecological footprint of construction
- creates a balanced, healthy indoor climate
- provides a quieter, more peaceful living environment
- can be constructed quickly, accurately and without waste.
It is no coincidence that several Hungarian construction companies are involved in building CLT houses, among which Ubrankovics Kft.. As can be read on the company's social media page, they have now built the structure of a house measuring approximately 700 m² in just four weeks. As they write:
„The entire supporting structure was built from cross-laminated timber (CLT) elements, using 573 m³ of timber — this represents approximately 570 tonnes of sequestered carbon dioxide.”
By way of comparison, a traditional (reinforced concrete) building of the same size would emit a similar amount of CO₂ during the construction phase alone. Wood is therefore not only a building material here, but also an active climate protection factor.
In a building like this, the air is lighter, the atmosphere is better, and the natural harmony of wood defines everyday life.
Key technical and architectural parameters of the project:
- 700 m² building – entirely wood-based structure
- 573 m³ of wood used in construction – 570 tonnes of CO₂ bound
- Concealed fittings and Rothoblaas connectors for precise joints
- Spans exceeding 15 metres and huge glass surfaces
- Erected CLT panels for more spacious interior height
- Outstanding noise insulation and thermal comfort
- Waterfront construction – sheet piling and soil replacement for a unique environment
- Extra flat roof layer system with modern waterproofing
