MVM Dome becomes world champion in an internationally recognised competition

Published

The MVM Dome project was the winner in the "Sports Facilities" category of the MAPEI World Reference Buildings Competition. More than 200 entries from all over the world were received for the 20th edition of the Reference Grand Prix competition between MAPEI Group subsidiaries. One year earlier, the Puskás Arena won the prestigious prize.

The modern and multifunctional hall, which can accommodate more than 20,000 spectators, is the largest sports hall in Hungary. Designed by Középülettervező Zrt., the building's dynamic exterior design, which evokes detailed muscle fibres reminiscent of Renaissance anatomical drawings, creates a stunning visual impact and reflects exemplary craftsmanship in the building's façade.

The Market Zrt. as general contractor coordinated the construction and the Mapei Kft. participated in the hot-plate works.

The company contributed to the work by applying substrate levelling, primers, smoothing mortars, adhesives and joint fillers over an area of about 21 000 square metres.

The Mapei solutions for the hot covers were implemented by Dósa Padló Kft..

"We are proud that a Hungarian building won the Reference Grand Prix and that we came home with another "medal". It is a great honour for us to have contributed to the construction of this iconic facility," said Bela Markovich, Managing Director of Mapei Kft..

"We are delighted that the MVM Dome, despite its young age, is not the first to win this award, and hopefully not the last. We congratulate everyone who has contributed to this achievement," said Lajos Pintér, Technical Director of the project.

The Reference Grand Prix is an internationally recognised competition in which Mapei subsidiaries from all over the world compete against each other. This year, more than 200 outstanding entries were received, and MVM Dome stood out in the sports facilities category.

Constant cooperation between designers and contractors

As we previously reported, the new home of European handball was inaugurated in December 2021. The sports hall, which can accommodate nearly 30 sports, was built as part of the Beruházási, Műszaki Fejlesztési, Sportüzemeltetési és Közbeszerzési Zrt. (BMSK) investment, designed by György Skardelli – Közti Zrt., and the construction was carried out by Market Építő Zrt. as the main contractor. The project's technical supervisor was Óbuda-Újlak Zrt . Based on the commission of Market, the preparation of the implementation plans for the external transport and public utility infrastructure elements, as well as the acquisition of the permits necessary for implementation, were carried out by Főmterv Zrt..

The facility was built under the Design & Build scheme, which gave the investor the certainty that the project was completed in the shortest possible time and in the most efficient way, after careful and well thought-out planning, with a view to economic construction.

The designers and contractors worked together continuously, taking into account each other's opinions, experience and deadlines.
