Mapei successfully managed the negative trend of the first half of the year
Sales of Mapei Kft. have turned positive, according to the latest report from the building materials and insulation systems company. The company achieved a domestic turnover of HUF 26 billion in the third quarter of this year, an increase of 1.1% compared to the same period last year. The company has thus successfully halted the decline in turnover seen in the first half of the year, which was 3.41TTP1835T lower in the sixth month than in the same period last year, but managed to turn this around by the end of September.
According to Béla Markovich, Managing Director of Mapei Kft., the main reason for the increase in domestic sales is
- the seasonal effect in the third quarter,
- a slight pick-up in construction and renovation,
- and the corporate measures taken at the beginning of the year, which had a positive impact in the third quarter.
Quark sand price increases have had a negative impact on exports
The expert also included the changing demand in his speech. He said that renovation is now dominating over new construction, and that a significant proportion of renovation is aimed at energy efficiency. As a consequence, the sales of insulation products and renovation-related building chemicals and building rehabilitation products have increased.
On the export side, however, the situation is less rosy: third-quarter export turnover was HUF 414 million, down HUF 201.1 trillion1835 thousand compared to last year. The decline on the export side is due to the increase in the price of quartz sand used by the company due to the rise in domestic energy prices, which has forced the company out of several European markets.
Drastic changes cannot be avoided immediately
"Although we could not avoid all environmental impacts, we are satisfied with the result. The Hungarian construction industry is characterised by sudden and dynamic change. These drastic changes cannot be avoided immediately, they take time. The measures taken earlier have now been implemented in the third quarter", said Béla Markovich, CEO of Mapei Kft..
He recalled that the company had introduced cost-cutting measures at the beginning of the year, and was also making continuous efforts to increase its market share to compensate for the fall in demand. Despite the difficulties, they are sticking to their two-decade-old strategy to help builders realise their building dreams: new services and products have been introduced, professional training has been enhanced to support operators and, from this year, personal advice will be provided to builders on all construction sites.
For the rest of the year, Mapei Kft. still does not expect the construction sector to improve, but remains optimistic and plans to continue to grow until the end of the year.
