The flagship of the Austrian construction industry has launched its largest investment project in Nyíregyháza
MCE Nyíregyháza Kft. is building a modern production hall in Nyíregyháza for the manufacture and integrated surface treatment of steel bridges and other steel structures, according to a company statement. The MCE group, as a member of HABAU Group, is carrying out the investment in the Déli Industrial Park in Nyíregyháza, based on plans drawn up by Céh Zrt..
The development, costing around €50 million (approximately 20 billion forints – ed.), is the largest single investment in the history of the HABAU Group.
According to the report by nyiregyhaza.hu report, in keeping with Austrian tradition, no foundation stone was laid at the project launch event; instead, construction was kicked off by digging the first spadeful of earth. The participants counted to three, then grabbed a spade, thereby symbolically commencing the project.
A 20,000-square-metre factory is being built as a greenfield development
The new complex consists of a two-part production hall, an office block and other buildings, and will be equipped with a solar panel system. It covers an area of approximately 20,000 square metres, the buildings are around 11 metres high, and in future it will provide space for around 250 employees.
The new production hall is expected to be completed within two years. Once the project is finished, MCE will relocate its entire operation from its current site on Tünde Street to the Déli Industrial Park, where work will continue at a modern, high-capacity production facility.
At the project launch on 26 March, Hubert Wetschnig, Managing Director of HABAU Group, emphasised that the investment would further strengthen their competitiveness in the international steel and bridge construction sector. The new steel structure manufacturing plant will be equipped with state-of-the-art machinery and crane systems, which will significantly increase the production efficiency of steel structures and bridge components. „This will lay the foundations for us to meet the growing demand for steel structure projects in Europe in a sustainable manner.”
Ukrainian exports could be of strategic importance
Günther Dorrer, managing director of MCE GmbH, emphasised that,
This development is important for their growth in Europe, and once the war in Ukraine comes to an end, it will be important for them to be able to export from here.
Attila Kovács, managing director of MCE Hungary Kft., said that the company’s profile remains unchanged: they will continue to focus on the manufacture of large-scale, heavy-duty steel structures. „We intend to continue manufacturing and constructing heavy, complex steel structures, which mainly means steel bridges.”.
We currently sell the bridges we manufacture worldwide, and we assemble them ourselves.”
The family business has become one of the leading players in the Austrian construction industry
The announcement reveals that MCE Nyíregyháza Kft., a wholly-owned subsidiary of the MCE group, has been operating in Nyíregyháza since 1989, manufacturing steel structures and bridges for the local, European and international markets.
The HABAU Group comprises 13 companies operating in the following sectors: building construction, civil engineering, the manufacture of prefabricated components, pipeline construction, underground works, steel structure fabrication, as well as timber construction and the construction of industrial plants specialising in the manufacture of prefabricated components
Having started out as a family business and still strongly embodying that spirit today, the group now employs a total of around 7,000 people and, with an annual turnover of €2.02 billion, ranks among the four largest players in the Austrian construction industry.
