In addition to the complete structural and functional renewal of the building, energy improvements, modern passenger information systems and environmental improvements can also be implemented.

The station building at Gyula railway station may be renovated. The contractor is being sought under the MÁV Track Operation Zrt. conditional procedure.

According to information published in the EU public procurement notice, the planned renovation will include

  • design of external boundary structures to meet energy standards, creation of the façade appearance, restoration of the original mass and roof shape;
  • a strong and clear separation of the railway and passenger functions within the building;
  • the deployment of a passenger information system (voice, written, dynamic, printed, pictogram) related to the passenger information spaces.

New functions, cleaner use of space

The gross floor area of the building affected by the construction is 999.47 m2, including the basement, ground floor and first floor, with an additional 710.43 m2 affected by landscaping.

The original high roof mass of the admission building will be restored, bringing the axis of the building back to the axis of Peace Avenue. The currently disused waiting rooms will be replaced by the MÁV Személyszállítási Zrt. cashier's block on the east side of the building. From the passenger hall, a corridor will provide access to the passenger toilet and washroom block. There will also be another, larger, rentable room from the platform.

The majority of the operational areas will remain on site, including the traffic, stationmaster's office and telecommunications rooms, but the traffic service will have changing rooms and showers, toilets and a kitchenette in the western part of the building. This will also house the mechanical room serving the whole building.

By eliminating the upstairs apartments, a new operational area will be created, including two service rest rooms, a public workers' rest room, the station manager's office and a washroom.

Historic building in a new guise

The design of the façade is based on the character of the existing warehouse building, which is a locally protected building. The façade will be rendered with brickwork, corner piers and opening framing. The glazed canopy will have a contemporary design with double steel pillars. A matching curtain wall cladding will also be applied to the circulation projection mass.

A covered B+R parking area for 2×40 bicycles will be provided on both sides of the reception building, weatherproof information boards will be installed inside and outside the building, and a public address system will be installed, as well as a barrier-free parking area in front of the building.

Deadline for receipt of bids: 9 July 2025.
