End of the railway closure in rákosrendező, trains are running freely again to the northern agglomerations of the capital

The five-week crab sorting project has been completed, Hegyi Zsolt, CEO of MÁV Group said on his Facebook page on Monday.

The trains on the Esztergom, Szomi and Veresegyháza lines are running again according to the previously usual schedule, the communication department of the state railway company informed MTI.

During the renovation, more than 1.5 kilometres of track were rebuilt, nearly a dozen switches were replaced, 5 kilometres of overhead line were renewed, 13 switches were connected to the centralised electrical adjustment system

At the same time, the ballast was repaired on the connecting track sections of two switches in the Nyugati station area, with the involvement of 180 specialists and a number of large machines, railway and road vehicles.

Previous speed limits will also be lifted

According to the entry, once the night-time switch and track-switching works, scheduled for the end of August and September, are completed, trains will be able to travel at a speed of 80 kilometres on about one and a half kilometres of track.

Zsolt Hegyi pointed out that speed limits, which have caused seemingly small but cumulatively noticeable delays on a daily basis, could disappear from everyday life. Although the work is not yet finished, the change is already tangible: trains on the renewed section of track are running smoother, the journey is smoother and more comfortable," the CEO said.

The investment was made from MÁV's own resources, with a budget of around HUF 3 billion

As previously we wrote: in about a month, from 25 August to 20 September, a similarly significant and lengthy closure and construction project will take place at MÁV's facilities in the capital: this time, traffic will be diverted from Keleti railway station.
