Railway station in north-western Hungary renovated

Work on upgrading the Kapuvár railway station in Győr-Moson-Sopron County has been completed, with the installation of the GYSEV Zrt. has been completed, according to the company's announcement. One of the key elements of the development was the construction of a new island platform. The high platform makes it easier to get on and off trains, and also makes travel easier for people with prams and wheelchairs. The railway company has been carrying out the reconstruction work since the beginning of the year, during which the station's track network was transformed and a new passageway to the island platform was built, they write.

The other major part of the works involved the renewal of the track network: this was carried out as the first phase of the project. Track I, the closest to the station building, was partially removed and replaced by Track II. Passengers travelling from the station now only have to cross one track to get to the platform.

No difference in level between the platform and the floor of the rolling stock

In accordance with the new track layout, an island platform was built between tracks II and III in the direction of Győr, 215 m long and 55 cm high above the track level. This height means that passengers only have to step into the low-floor vehicles, with virtually no difference in level between the platform and the floor of the vehicle," clarifies the GYSEV statement. The new island platform will be available to the public from 1 October.

It is pointed out that GYSEV Zrt. carried out the work under continuous train traffic. From May to September, passengers were able to use a temporary platform. In September, work was carried out to modify the overhead contact line, as well as to modify the signalling equipment and the station remote control.

The GYSEV Zrt. carried out the railway track reconstruction, the construction of the high platform, the overhead line reconstruction and the lighting works with its own resources. External contractors were engaged by the railway company for the works related to the paving of the square, the life safety fence, the platform railing and several other similar elements.
