WHB wins significant work in CATL's giant investment in Debrecen

WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft. has won a large-scale project at the Contemporary Amperex Technologies Limited (CATL) giant complex in Debrecen, according to information sent to our newspaper by the company. The Hungarian company will carry out the structural construction of one half of the Chinese company's central production hall (PC Package 2) and the associated ancillary building.

A total of 110 thousand square metres of hall space is being built

CATL - the world's largest battery company - is making the largest ever investment in Hungary in Debrecen, worth around HUF 3000 billion. The company has a significant international market share of over 30 percent. Well-known car manufacturers such as BMW, Ford, Tesla and Volkswagen use CATL batteries in their products.

As part of the giant project in Debrecen, WHB will carry out the construction of a total of 110,000 square metres of hall space, which will be completed:

• excavation of monolithic reinforced concrete headstocks,
• the construction of monolithic headstocks,
• the placement of precast reinforced concrete elements,
• and the installation of the steel reinforcement.

The WHB has already started work on the Debrecen production hall, including earthworks and the tasks mentioned above.

In the WHB report, it was stressed that such significant investments can contribute to the development of the Hungarian economy and create opportunities for Hungarian construction companies to demonstrate their knowledge and skills on an international level. "The participation of WHB in the CATL investment in Debrecen can serve as an incentive for other Hungarian companies to undertake projects of similar size and importance and strengthen Hungary's position in the industry", the report said.

The company is focusing on several factors in the investment. The first of these is scalability: the project requires a high level of flexibility due to its size alone, and in this respect the WHB adapts to the scale and complexity of the investment, with the necessary resources and skilled workforce.
