The renovation of the main building of the University of Tokaj-Hegyalja has begun

The work site has been taken over by KE-VÍZ 21 Zrt., and the renovation of the historic building can begin , wrote BOON.hu. As previously reported, the educational centre in Sárospatak, built in 1909 according to the plans of Kismarty-Lechner Jenő, which is of significant value, will be restored and renovated according to the plans of 4D Építész Stúdió.

The building, which was once the centre of the Eszterházy Károly University campus in Sárospatak, will be reborn as the main building of the Tokaj-Hegyalja University, founded in 2021, but which will also continue its older traditions, after a long period of planning and preparation, according to a joint statement by György Wáberer, chairman of the board of trustees of the foundation operating the university, and Zsolt Szakolczai, economic director of KE-VIZ 21 Zrt., the company carrying out the construction work.

New college and sports centre to be built

The contractor will have twenty months to complete the work, which will result in a building that is fully fit for today's needs. The President of the Board of Trustees also said that the work will involve the renovation of almost everything except the main walls. György Wáberer added that the university has had a large number of students enrol this year, but the new building is expected to make the institution even more attractive. He also mentioned that in the coming years, further developments are expected around the university, such as the construction of a new dormitory and a sports centre, effectively creating a small student centre in Sárospatak.

Every detail is involved in the renovation

The two-storey main building of almost 3200 square metres will undergo a complete interior and exterior renovation. This will include 2740 square metres of roof alterations and 2620 square metres of partial façade reconstruction and painting. Nearly 200 external and 83 internal windows and doors will also be replaced. Heating will be provided by a heat pump system in the renovated building, for which the entire heating system will be replaced, but also the electrical wiring, water and sewerage networks will be replaced. In addition to the teaching and community spaces, the bathrooms will also be renewed. The rooms will be lit by 800 modern, energy-efficient luminaires.
