Central Europe's most modern prison built on the eastern border

The most modern prison in Hungary, and even in Central Europe, is being built in Csenger, the Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Interior told a press conference on 12 January. Bence Rétvári added,

The 1,500-capacity high-tech smart prison will also feature video analysis and location systems.

Environmentally friendly architectural solutions are used

As we previously reported, an institution with a capacity of 1,500 people will be built in the county of Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg under project WEST HUNGÁRIA BAU Kft.. The prison will be located one kilometre from the 49 main road, on a 5.5-hectare site, and will feature modern, durable and environmentally friendly architectural solutions.

Inmates will also have the opportunity to learn and work in this prison, which will include classrooms and two workshops.

Preparatory courses are already underway

At the press event on Friday, the State Secretary stressed that Hungary is among the twenty safest countries in the world, with a five thousand increase in the number of prisoners and a 280 thousand annual decrease in the number of crimes since 2010. "Several prisons have already been expanded, but more capacity is needed; the new facility in Chisinau is also an important step to make Hungarian people feel safe," he added.

The Minister of State pointed out that the choice of location was not a coincidence, as the prison in Chengers will create around seven hundred jobs in the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county region.

Brigadier General László Biczó, project leader, reported that more than 1,500 CVs have been sent to the recruiters so far and 196 candidates have already been hired, with 172 currently completing the 14-week training course.
