The girls’ boarding school in Budapest is being refurbished with additional places and more modern facilities

The Diocese of Győr has commissioned the refurbishment of the Blessed Vilmos Apor College on Viola Street in Budapest. According to information available on the EKR website, the winner of the public procurement tender for the construction work was Korrent Kft., with the total value of the contract amounting to 451 million forints.

The aim of the project is to improve the comfort and technical standards of the girls’ boarding school in the 9th district, which currently has a capacity of 21 and has been operating as accommodation for around 24 years. Following the refurbishment, the facility will be able to accommodate 30 people.

The rooms will have their own bathrooms

One of the most important aspects of the development is improving the comfort of the rooms. On the side facing Viola Street, as well as at the northern and southern ends of the courtyard façade, there are currently twin rooms which – with a few exceptions – do not have en-suite facilities.

As part of the renovation, each pair of rooms will have its own toilet and bathroom. In place of the chapel overlooking the courtyard, two new rooms will be created, which will also feature this layout.

By reducing the height of the two-storey-high interior space at the Viola Street entrance, a new communal space is created, directly accessible from the corridor. Natural lighting is provided by the design of the new entrance door, specifically the glazed panel above the opening leaf.

The service areas required for the building’s operation will also be refurbished; a laundry room will be installed in the basement, whilst the plant rooms will be located on the ground floor and in the attic.

A net floor area of over 620 square metres

Following the refurbishment of the existing Vilmos Apor College building and its extension to include a first floor and an attic level , the college’s usable floor area will be 642.60 square metres and its net floor area 620.83 square metres.

The mechanical and electrical systems are also being modernised

The project involves not only the refurbishment of the building’s interior spaces, but also the modernisation of its mechanical and electrical systems. The building’s primary heat source will remain the existing gas boiler, whilst cooling will be provided by a heat pump system.

A low-voltage network is being installed in the building to support the IT network, access control system, intruder alarm system and centrally controlled clock, whilst emergency lighting is provided either by a central uninterruptible power supply or by local battery-powered luminaires.
