A HUF 55 billion project is launched at the animal feed factory in Bükk, including road and water network improvements.

Nestlé Hungária is developing Purina's pet food factory in Bük to the tune of HUF 55 billion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade announced at a press conference in Budapest.

The Swiss-based food company is building a new plant and two new automatic production lines at its site in Bükk, where it will be able to produce 500,000 tonnes of animal feed a year from 2025, with 85 percent of the products being exported. The HUF 55 billion investment is expected to create 130 new jobs. Although the company will not receive any government financial support, the state will provide the necessary infrastructure improvements, including modernisation of the road and water networks.

An essential part of the project is the Nestlé Hungária five-year development period between 2020 and 2025, during which investments totalling HUF 300 billion will be made, creating around 600 new jobs, according to Péter Szijjártó, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade. We last wrote about this in October 2023.

He explained that the factory in Bükk sources more than half of the raw materials used there from domestic suppliers, so Hungarian small and medium-sized enterprises also gain a lot from this.

Hungary's largest food investment

The Managing Director of Nestlé Hungária also spoke at the press conference. "Today's announcement marks the end of a five-year development period in the life of the Bükk plant, during which we will have completed an investment worth HUF 300 billion" - said Peter Noszek.

He underlined that this is the largest food industry investment in Hungary, which will more than double the production capacity of the plant from nearly 200 thousand tonnes in 2019 to half a million tonnes in 2019.
