Penguins and seals will soon be able to take over the icy world of the Nyíregyháza Zoo

In the spring, animals will be able to move into the new attraction of the Nyíregyháza Zoo, which will be ready for 2021. The Ice Age Interactive Animal Show will take visitors on a tour of the animals of the Arctic Circle. The Zoo's newest facility, covering more than 10,000 square metres, will feature both indoor and outdoor interactive elements to show the life of animals living in the Arctic, the causes and consequences of the Ice Age and the atmosphere of the Ice Age nature.

Final touches

The project, which we have also presented several times, is being implemented in the area between the main entrance and the north-western gate of the zoo, in a strip stretching to the eastern boundary of the park – has been underway since 2021, in several phases, by KE-VÍZ 21 zRt.. Phases II-III are already under construction, closely followed by the completion of phase I. The complex surfaces, service roads, park and paving stones designated for pedestrian traffic are currently being prepared – naturally taking into account all existing conditions and connection points.

"The final touches are being put on the catwalks, and the tenants will soon be ready to move in", stressed Marina Mezősi, project manager.

The water trail will be a huge attraction

The flume ride (i.e. an artificial stream in a gorge, passable by small boat) course has already been tested and is in the process of being certified. The construction of flume ride, which is one of the most interesting elements of the project, has been the biggest challenge for the KE-VÍZ team, as the water channel, which is made of steel structures and can be navigated by boat, also passes through buildings.

Before winter arrived, the boats had successfully completed a few laps of the course and canals that had been designed for them, so once the permits are in place, this feature will be safe to use. At the very end of the project, the orca animatronic figures will arrive and, once installed, the finished installation can be handed over to the operator.

"We plan to deliver the project elements this spring, ahead of the commitment deadline," said the project leader, describing the encouraging news.
