Small town, big project to be implemented - Road renovations, pavement and park construction in the Danube-side town
The developments in the Mezőföld settlement were made possible with the involvement of EU and domestic funds. Since the ceremonial groundbreaking ceremony at the end of March, the experts from STRABAG contractor has completed the construction of the pavement and pedestrian crossings on the Kisapostag access road. In addition, they have installed a rainwater drainage system on Széchenyi Street and paved the bed of the Kisapostag watercourse. Furthermore, green infrastructure developments have been implemented on Petőfi Street.
Work coordinated with the school and kindergarten
In the spring, the works started with the construction of the pavement in Petőfi street - Péter Balogh informed our portal. The new pedestrian traffic corridor will now provide safe access to the renovated bus stops on the busy main road 6. The project manager added that the construction of the public parks was carried out at the same time as the construction of the sidewalk on Petőfi Street.
The last stage of the works started in Széchenyi Street. They waited for the summer holidays to start at the school, as the works included a water pipe reconstruction. There were only minor disruptions to the school and kindergarten.
Closed canals to channel rainwater into the restored watercourse
For a long time, the problem in the village has been that during heavy rainfall, water from higher altitudes has collected in Petőfi Sándor Street and then found its way to the nearby creek bed. During the works, the Kisapostagi watercourse was dredged, 51 metres of prefabricated embankment elements were installed and the connecting inlets were also paved. With the improvement, water from Széchenyi Street will now be collected in large grid flumes, and rainwater will be discharged into the Kisapostagi watercourse through closed channels. The project involved the construction of 350 metres of stormwater drains of various diameters in Petőfi and Széchenyi streets.
Almost a kilometre of pavement built to bus stops
The project has also made significant improvements to road safety. Here, the primary objective of the improvements was to provide safe access from the busy main road 6 to Mihály Táncsics Street (where a pavement had already been built) for public transport users and pedestrians travelling within the municipality. More than 900 metres of paved pavement were constructed. This has created a continuous pedestrian surface on the left side of Petőfi Street and a new pavement on the right side of the street around one of the public parks, bus stops and the pedestrian crossing. In Petőfi and Kossuth streets, two new barrier-free pedestrian crossing points were built, traffic signs and street lighting were installed during the works.
Using EU and national funds, the entire length and width of Széchenyi Street and a 705-metre section of Petőfi Street were resurfaced with own funds.
More than two thousand plants planted in two new public parks
Residents will also enjoy new community spaces. Two public parks have been built in the village, with more than 2,200 plants planted. In addition to trees and shrubs, over a thousand perennial plants have been planted. The parks, which also include benches and litter bins, are expected to revitalise community life. The project included one solar lamp post in the park and two at the bus stops on Route 6. The new public clock also uses solar energy to operate.
The technical handover of the project is already underway and should be completed by the first half of October at the latest.
