Three renewed buildings on a nearly 150-year-old university campus inaugurated

The three renovated pavilion buildings of the University of Veterinary Medicine were inaugurated on Tuesday. The renewal of the university buildings is not only a tribute to the past, but also a symbol of our commitment to the future, said Peter Sótony, the university's rector. He said.

7.3 billion forints have been spent on the renovation of three buildings on the university campus, which was opened in 1880. Five departments had to be vacated during the project, but the two thousand students of the institution still received a meaningful education.

He recalled that the University of Veterinary Medicine, the third in the world to be founded, has been teaching veterinary medicine since 1787, and the building complex that is still its home was designed by Imre Steindl, the architect of the Parliament House during the premiership of Kálmán Tisza.

As a first step in the overall modernisation of the university, the renewed buildings will house scientific workshops that will guarantee the international embeddedness and success of teaching and research activities, he stressed. He added that the new complex of buildings, the Centre for Comparative Medicine, planned as a continuation of the improvements already underway, will provide opportunities for further innovative scientific discoveries, unique in their field.
