Another sustainable hall in the industrial zone of the City of Towers

The general contractor Merkbau is making the IGPark C building in Kecskemét more environmentally conscious with innovative solutions.

One of Kecskemét's fastest growing industrial areas is directly accessible from the M5 motorway and the 54 main road. The IG Park Kecskemét South is located near the premises of international companies such as Mercedes, Motherson, Knorr-Bremse, Duvenbeck and Kühne+Nagel.

A total of 25 hectares of land prepared for development is available to companies here, on which a 21,000 m² industrial and logistics hall (Building ‘A’) was built in 2023, followed by the handover of the 15,000 m² Building ’B’ in 2024.A") was built in 2023, followed by the 15,000 m² "B" building in 2024. A new road junction has recently been built to provide direct access from the main road to the site, which is clearly visible from the main road and where two developments are being carried out in parallel by Merkbau Építőipari és Kereskedelmi Zrt. is working on two developments in parallel: the 6,000 m² extension of building ’A‘ is currently underway, and the development of the 15,000 m² ’C' building is also progressing rapidly. The pace of this is well illustrated by the fact that the planned handover of Hall 'C' is in the third quarter of 2025, for which the topping-out ceremony has already taken place.

At the highest point of the new hall

Reaching the highest point of a building is a festive occasion, traditionally celebrated by builders and builders, and this building was no different. Kádár-Németh Krisztián, chief architect of Merkbau Zrt., took the opportunity to highlight the challenges of the task:

"In mid-November 2024, we experienced a major difficulty in having to deliver this building with a very short lead time. It's a great achievement for us to be standing on the finished industrial floor today, when four months ago the piling machinery of the civil engineering industry was just starting to move. This accelerated pace proves that, together with our partners, we can be efficient and ready for the challenges ahead.

I would like to thank the investor for looking at us as partners to achieve a common goal; but also the design and technical inspection team for their attentive work, with whom we can put problems behind us through a common mindset."

At the event, the project's facilities manager, Jososos Siska, was able to recite the bushwalk poem, who also gave details of the construction. The aim here is to create an innovative, sustainable logistics hall in the IG Park Kecskemét Dél logistics park of the Innovinia Group. In the course of this, the 21 000 m2 building 'A' can be extended by a further 6 000 m2 with the same parameters as the existing one, and in phase 'C' the company can build a completely separate logistics hall.

Focus on environmental awareness

The aim of the project is to create a multi-functional hall for rent, suitable for the activities of companies - either manufacturing or logistics - that service the Mercedes factory, or that may have their own independent activities.

"Both halls are designed to BREEAM Very Good certification, which ensures that the development meets high sustainability standards. The complete general construction of these was undertaken by Merkbau Zrt., from the pile foundations to the architecture, mechanical and electrical works"

- summarised the tasks of the facility manager.

Construction started in November 2024, and in addition to the buildings, the contractor also undertook the construction of some 15 000 m2 of roads, 11 500 m2 of landscaping and two reservoirs. Currently, the final stage of concreting of the industrial floor of building C is in progress, after which the industrial flooring of building A can start.

To date, Merkbau has carried out a number of works, including foundations, structural work, building wrapping, roof insulation, sprinkler installation and specialist works (mechanical, electrical installations), followed by the installation of domes, gate and dock installations, the masonry of the social block and even its carton works including screed-laying. After this, the specialists will then have to complete the finishing works (cold and hot tiling, painting, mechanical and electrical installations), followed by the interior doors, the exterior works and the road works, so that there is a good chance of handing over building C on schedule, in July 2025.
