Budapest's new 516-apartment residential complex completed with state-of-the-art technology

In the rehabilitated part of Pest, the former factory buildings, halls and warehouses have been replaced by modern office buildings, cultural institutions and residential buildings. The Metrodom Green on the corner of Vágóhíd and Vaskapu utca, built in the spirit of sustainable architecture, continues to shape this vibrant, renewing cityscape.

Green roof with water-saving irrigation system

One of the main features of the 516-apartment building is the fact that its facade is covered with 7,000 square metres of plants. The green walls have been fitted with special irrigation systems that even use the condensation produced by the air conditioning systems, so that practically every drop of water is used. In addition to being aesthetically pleasing, green façade walls improve the microclimate and reduce air pollution. Green roofs and green façades can become important allies against the heat island effect in the built environment of cities during the increasingly hot summers.

Third generation smart home system

The residential complex has an A+ energy rating, and an important link in its cost-efficient operation is Metrodom's proprietary hybrid Dual Eco system. The latter uses the most optimal combination of solar energy and gas to ensure the ideal temperature in the apartments at the lowest possible energy cost. Solar panels on higher floors provide part of the property's own energy from renewable sources. Ceiling cooling and heating contribute to the perfect comfort of the occupants. Energy and cost efficiency is also supported by the complex's own third-generation smart home system, which controls the electrical, heating and cooling and shading systems of the apartments without any permanent intervention.

In the inner courtyard of the residential buildings, a park of almost 2 500 square metres has been created, which is technically a green roof, since the underground car park is located underneath. Each parking space in the garage has its own electric charging point. The concrete surfaces of the car parks and underground car parks, which are subject to pedestrian and vehicle traffic, and the service areas have been given adequate surface protection to ensure long-term and economical operation. The main purpose of this is to prevent any fuel, oil, water and the occasional melting salts that may accumulate in the latter from entering the reinforced concrete structure and triggering corrosion processes.

The professional installation of synthetic resin on the parking areas of the Metrodom Green residential park, covering an area of nearly 5,500 m², was carried out between January and April 2024 by Turul Padló Kft. using products from Mapei products.
