Roszatom: First concrete on the Paks II project in two months

Roszatom is implementing the Paks II project on schedule, with active works underway at the construction site, Kirill Komarov, First Deputy CEO of Roszatom and Director of International Business Development, told Hungarian journalists at the World Atomic Week event on Friday. He said:

The 23-metre deep working pit is ready, and the so-called first concrete pour is being prepared. As soon as the Hungarian nuclear authority issues the relevant licence, the first concrete pour will take place within two months, after which Paks II will be officially classified as a nuclear power plant under construction.

"The most important thing is that the project does not stop"

He added,

contracts have already been signed for the production and supply of some equipment, such as the production of reactor vessels in Russian plants, the production of turbines and the production of the automatic control system, partly with the involvement of a French supplier.

Kirill Komarov said that the European Court of Justice ruling has no influence on the Paks II investment. He noted that Roszatom is not part of this dispute. According to him, it is a procedural issue, which always arises, but the most important thing is that the project has not stopped for a minute, it is moving forward.

High proportion of Hungarian suppliers

Among many other insights, the CEO also explained that international projects are carried out according to the client's expectations. As far as the Paks II project is concerned, a technology plan was developed with our Hungarian customer, based on which they defined which equipment would be delivered and what work would be done by the Russian side, and what the Hungarian part would be.

They also see one of their main tasks as putting Hungarian industry, including the Hungarian construction industry, in a position, and they are convinced that there will be a high proportion of Hungarian suppliers to the project.
