30 billion investment in Nyírbátor by the company that has been operating in Hungary for 30 years

UNILEVER has been present in Hungary for three decades. Originally founded in 1929 as a British-Dutch joint venture, the large company is expanding its Hungarian capacity with a 10,000 square metre factory hall in Nyírbátor, with construction being carried out by STRABAG.

The new unit will produce 150 million bottles of deodorant a year

UNILEVER is starting to produce hygiene products at its new factory in Nyírbátor, which is being built next to the existing household chemicals factory. The HUF 30 billion investment will enable the company to produce 150 million bottles of deodorant per year, mainly for export, mainly to Eastern European markets.

The Unilever global network will have the 4th largest capacity of such a plant in Nyírbátor.

Structural construction to be completed in September

The brownfield project started with demolition works in autumn 2024. Since March this year, STRABAG has been working on the construction of the production hall, which is scheduled to be completed by mid-September.

The production hall takes shape

The construction of the 10,000 square metre factory started with excavation and piling, followed by foundation and earthing work, and then the prefabricated and monolithic structures. During the construction of the structure, the longest built-in element is 24.285 metres long, while the tallest pillar is 19.245 metres. The installation of the secondary steel structures (stiffeners) was followed by the installation of the load-bearing trapezoidal plate, and the sandwich panel cladding is currently being installed in the production and raw materials hall.

Manufacturing and warehouse capacity is also being built

The new building complex will consist of several parts: a production hall, a raw material mixing plant, offices and a warehouse for raw materials and finished products. The prefabricated frame structure will be completed with monolithic wall sections, combining fast assembly with durability.

Provide a separate entrance for construction traffic

The construction is taking place on sandy soil next to the existing factory, so dust control is an ongoing task: the area is watered to reduce dust build-up, especially in windy weather. The construction area is completely fenced off from the household chemical products section and has a separate entrance for construction traffic.

Test run to start next year

Due to the client's activities, the building is subject to stricter fire safety regulations and health and safety rules than usual. Although no mechanical engineering work is being carried out at this stage of the project, systems adapted to the specific needs of aerosol production will be installed in later phases. For the Nyírbátor factory extension, the structural construction, carried out by Strabag, will provide a solid basis for the subsequent work phases. Once the building has been handed over, the new production unit UNILEVER will not only increase the company's production capacity and create new jobs, but will also strengthen the industrial weight of the region.
