A spa in Zala with a unique atmosphere is set to undergo development aimed at ensuring sustainable operation

As a result of the upgrade, the facility will be able to significantly reduce its external energy requirements.

A call for tenders concerning the first phase of the energy renovation of the Lenti Spa has been published in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin.

According to the tender specifications, the project involves the construction of a small-scale photovoltaic power plant with a capacity of 499 kVA to reduce the spa’s electricity consumption, as well as the development of a new 22 kV connection point (E.ON) required for its connection to the grid, and the installation of an internal 0.4 and 22 kV private network for the supply of electricity.

They are reducing energy consumption with a solar panel system

A small-scale solar power plant and energy storage system with an electrical output of 499.99 kVA, comprising 864 solar panels each with a capacity of 695 Wp, one 99.99 kVA string inverter and, in the case of four units, four 100 kVA string inverters feeding into a three-phase AC grid. The energy storage system has a capacity of 500 kVA/1116 kWh, features a modular design and is suitable for outdoor installation; it does not need to be housed in a separate containerised unit.

During the operation of the energy storage system, efforts must be made to ensure that the site draws as little energy as possible from the public grid, prioritising the use of electricity generated by the solar power plant and stored by the energy storage system. The scope of the project includes the installation of all electrical equipment associated with the small-scale solar power plant and energy storage system (distribution boards, new power converters, island mode protection, circuit breakers, high- and low-voltage cabling, etc.) and lightning protection.

The entire tram infrastructure is being modernised

As part of the development, the spa’s entire private network, comprising 0.4 and 22 kV lines, will be constructed, and a new medium-voltage connection point linked to E.ON will also be established. Future power supply will be provided from this 22 kV network: to this end, switchgear will be installed on one of the existing network’s pylons, which will serve as the spa’s new feed-in point.

New transformer stations are being built as central components of the system. One of these stations, with a capacity of 630 kVA, will manage the power supply to the spa and its ancillary facilities; it will also house the medium-voltage metering equipment and the protection systems required for energy management. This will be connected to a separate transformer station for the solar power plant and energy storage facility, which will also have a capacity of 630 kVA.

New 22 kV underground cables will be laid between the two substations and up to the connection point – covering a total route length of over 200 metres – to ensure a stable medium-voltage connection. In addition, the low-voltage network will also be upgraded: new 0.4 kV cables and an 8-circuit main distribution board will be installed to serve the spa’s internal power distribution.

As part of the project, an optical cable will also be laid alongside the tram network to provide a data link for the system that monitors the operation of the energy storage facility and the solar power plant. The works require planning permission.

A health resort nestled amongst the hills of Zala

In Lenti, a town blessed with one of Zala County’s most picturesque landscapes, water with healing properties gushed forth during well-drilling work in the 1960s, whilst a wool mill was being built. The spa was opened in 1978 to make use of this water. The 40,000-year-old sodium bicarbonate water was certified as medicinal water in 1988, and the spa was designated a health resort in 2016.

The therapeutic water is suitable for the treatment of musculoskeletal problems, spinal issues (neck, back, lower back), lumbago, and inflammatory and degenerative conditions affecting the joints (shoulder, elbow, hand, hip, knee, ankle).

It is characterised by a rich natural flora, varied terrain and landscapes dotted with rivers. The region is enveloped by the beneficial influence of the St George energy line; a real highlight within the spa area is the St George Energy Park.

According to naturopaths, the Energiapark is situated at the intersection of energy lines that are exceptionally powerful even by Hungarian standards and have such beneficial effects that they make the spa unique throughout Europe.
