What is being built?
Classrooms at three schools are being refurbished under contract STRABAG in time for the start of the school year
Classrooms at three primary schools in Hungary are to be refurbished as part of the STRABAG Klassz Room Programme. Under this initiative, STRABAG Hungary will create modern, inspiring learning environments in the winning schools, with funding of up to 10 million forints gross. Nearly 500 schools applied for the initiative. Ten were selected from the applicants by lottery. This was followed by a public vote, which received more than 17,000 votes. According to the company’s press release, renovations at the institutions that received the most votes are scheduled to be completed before the start of the 2026/2027 academic year.
It was decided through community consultation where the work would begin
The aim of the STRABAG Klassz Room Programme is to enable students to learn in classrooms that are not only more modern and comfortable, but also support creative, experiential learning. The results of the vote also showed that the quality of the learning environment surrounding children is of paramount importance to parents, teachers and local communities.
A modern mathematics classroom is to be built in Tápiószentmárton
The Kubinyi Ágoston Primary School in Tápiószentmárton received the most votes: the school finished the competition with 2,302 votes. The school’s classroom with its cracked walls will be transformed into a modern maths classroom, where digital tools and a state-of-the-art layout will also help to develop logical skills.
A multifunctional development site is being built in Szőlősgyörök
The second winner was the Dél-Balatoni Gárdonyi Géza Lutheran Primary School and Nursery in Szőlősgyörök, with 2,139 votes. One of the institution’s outdated, rarely used classrooms, built in 1960, will be transformed into a multifunctional space following the renovation: it will be used to hold speech therapy and developmental sessions for pupils with special educational needs, as well as form tutor periods.
The „story space” awaits students from Herceghalom
The third winner was Herceghalmi Primary School and Elementary School of the Arts, which received 2,030 votes. The school submitted an entry based on a specific classroom concept: the old room will be transformed into a „space for stories”, that is, a flexible, multi-purpose humanities classroom where literature and history can be linked in an engaging way through the use of drama pedagogy and an interactive timeline.
The new learning spaces will be ready by September
The refurbishment of the three classrooms will begin in the summer of 2026, and the work must be completed by 31 August at the latest. This means that pupils will be able to start the new school year in September in the new Creative Learning Spaces. STRABAG Hungary’s own specialists are involved in the design and construction.
