A new road network and flyover could transform access to Liszt Ferenc Airport

Budapest Airport Budapest Liszt Ferenc Nemzetközi Repülőtér Üzemeltető Zrt. has entered into a 48-month framework agreement covering two sub-tasks. The first relates to design work on buildings, building structures and other constructions, whilst the second concerns infrastructure design tasks.
According to the notice, orders will not be placed automatically but will be awarded through competitive tendering procedures launched under the framework agreement. Companies listed in the framework agreement may submit further tenders for specific tasks.

Plans may be drawn up for both the development and the refurbishment of buildings

The airport operator set out its preliminary development plans in the tender notice. It anticipates 5–10 competitive tenders per year, which will pave the way for the development, refurbishment and medium-term investment in the airport’s building stock. The successful tenderer’s remit may extend from project preparation, through conceptual designs and planning permission documentation, to the preparation of construction drawings.
According to the notice, the airport’s development projects may include partial or complete building renovations and construction works covering floor areas of 6,700–7,000 square metres or more.

It has become necessary to expand the capacity of the entire infrastructure

The second sub-task relates to infrastructure planning work. This may also include preparations for developments relating to the airport’s utility and transport networks.
The airport site currently has a drinking water and sewerage network exceeding 20 kilometres in length, as well as an electricity network exceeding 100 kilometres. In connection with the reconstruction and development of these networks – in some cases involving sections of at least 700 metres – the re-tenders may relate to the preparation of design tasks.
The successful tenderer’s remit may include the expansion and/or refurbishment of the airport’s open-air car park, which has a capacity of approximately 10,000 spaces, as well as the expansion and/or refurbishment of the road network – currently exceeding 20 km in length and comprising at least two lanes – associated with the car parks and airport building developments, in sections of at least 300 running metres where applicable. 

Contractor sought for airport road and utility infrastructure development

A tender
for the reconstruction of the access road to the airport and the associated utility network has been published in the EU Public Procurement Bulletin.
According to the notice, 53,000 square metres of new road network may be built, connecting to the existing arrival and departure levels. The collector, service and bypass roads may be built with 2 or 3 traffic lanes.
To connect the existing and new network elements, a new flyover will also need to be constructed, with a clear span of 16.6 metres.
The car parks in the immediate vicinity of the current terminal will be demolished; to replace them, a new facility with a capacity of approximately 1,000 spaces will be built, which will be connected to the „J” gate road.
The entire utility network within the site will be rebuilt, including the main stormwater drainage network, the sewerage system, the drinking water and fire-fighting water networks, as well as the IT and electrical networks and the associated substructures. The tender specifies that 100 per cent of the material resulting from the demolition of the runway structure must be recycled. The contractor awarded the contract must ensure that traffic flows continue and airport operations remain uninterrupted throughout the works.
