Chain Bridge renovation - the finishing touches are being put to the project

Published

The spectacular A-Híd Zrt. project is getting closer and closer to completion: while the demolition of the container city on the Pest side has already started, the possibilities for decorative lighting are being tested.

The test operation of the decorative lighting of the A-Híd Zrt. renovated by Chain Bridge is currently undergoing testing, which is why the bridge and parts of it are illuminated in different colours for shorter or longer periods during the day and night. Passers-by can see that the new, energy-efficient decorative lighting shines in many different colours, but after the bridge is fully handed over, the lights are expected to be visible in a single warm white colour for most of the year, according to a statement by BKK.

The full opening of the Chain Bridge is conditional on the installation of decorative lighting. Testing of the network and the operation of the newly installed luminaires has been ongoing over the last few weeks and will continue in the weeks remaining until the project is completed. As a result, the Chain Bridge, and parts of it, will be illuminated for longer or shorter periods of time, day and night.

The system will be tested with several colours, brightness levels and running lights. The colour scheme of the new automatic decorative lighting can be changed dynamically, and the 1180 luminaires that provided the string lighting have been replaced by a modern LED technology bulb row

"The aim of the lighting tests is to set the lights together with the designers, the heritage authority, the contractor and the future operators"- says Zoltán Erő, chief architect of Budapest, and adds:

"This involved finding the right colour temperature and light intensity. Today's LED technology is undoubtedly capable of much more than the conventional systems used for decades. It therefore deserves much more care and attention in its setup and operation. At the same time, it also requires restraint to use this lighting system with dignity on the country's most important monument: we propose that the Chain Bridge should be lit for only a few days a year, mainly on national holidays, and then only for a few hours."

Demolition of the container city at the Pest bridgehead has started

Meanwhile, the renovation of the Chain Bridge has also reached the finishing line: the final touches are being put on the finishing touches by A-Híd Zrt. In addition to the minor and major finishing works, the demolition of the container city in the parade area has started. Until the opening of the footpaths on the bridge, i.e. until the renovation is fully completed, the restoration of the parade ground and the demolition of the palisade fence bordering it will also be carried out.

As long as the official procedures are successful and the remaining minor works and repairs are completed, pedestrians will be able to cross the sidewalks on both sides of the Chain Bridge as early as August.
