Good news for drivers in Nógrád: traffic on the new bridge in Bátonyterenye has started

The new bridge over the Tarján stream in the Bátonyterenye bypass project was opened to traffic on 11 July, according to the investor Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium.

The Colas Út Zrt. and HE-DO consortium has been working on the project since May 2022 and it consists of three parts:

• Available to road users from December 2023 the 2.3-kilometre dual carriageway Bátonyterenye bypass, built as a secondary arterial road on a new route;
• as well as the 2.19 km two-lane north-south link road between the two parts of Bátonyterenye, Nagybátony and Kisterenye;
• In addition, the project will also include the reconstruction of the so-called crossing section of the main road No 23 in the Bátonyterenye area.

The old bridge in poor condition has been completely demolished

The bridge in question was built as part of the last element of the project, the crossing section. According to the announcement, a total of 3 level crossings have been constructed on the crossing section:

• at the junction of the Bátonyterenye crossing and the new north-south link road;
• at the junction of Árpád street, Szent István street and Rákóczi street;
• and at the end of the crossing at the junction with the new bypass.

The bridges over the Kazár stream and the Tarján stream were also rebuilt as part of the development. On the Bátonyterenye crossing over the Tarján stream, the former bridge in poor condition was demolished in January this year, so the area around the bridge was completely closed until the new crossing was built. By the end of June, the construction works on the bridge had reached such a stage that it was opened to vehicular traffic on 11 July, after the relevant official permit was issued.

Not much left to develop

Also, due to the difference in level between Rákóczi út and Hunyadi János utca, a 19-metre reinforced concrete angle retaining wall was built. A 3 m wide shared pedestrian and cycle path was built on the right, parallel to the initial section of the crossing, which runs for 347 m to the Kazár stream.

The remaining part of the project is expected to be completed by autumn 2024, the Ministry said.
