One of the world's most influential food companies develops its road network near Budapest

Colas is building roads and a truck park in Dunaharaszti, the Hungarian headquarters of Coca-Cola HBC.

Since 1996, Coca-Cola HBC Magyarország has been continuously developing and expanding its manufacturing and storage capacity in Hungary since 1996. In December 2023, the new PET3 production line and the hall housing it were completed at its headquarters in Dunaharaszti. In connection with this, the company has improved its loading, logistics and warehousing performance.

The factory, located near the capital, has a storage capacity equivalent to five football pitches, or 38,000 square metres. To ensure smooth access, Colas is building two new roads on a new route and reinforcing and widening an older road.

The expansion of the factory will also involve infrastructure development

On the details of the project, Zsolt Szentgyörgyi, project manager of Colas, told our portal that the new road network is needed to serve the existing units and to access and serve the developments planned in the near future in the Coca-Cola HBC Magyarország area, such as the construction of new warehouses.

In November 2023, the construction of the 1, 2 and 3 Feltáró út in Dunaharaszti began, with a total length of 1300 metres. The first two are on a completely new track, while the latter is an older, narrow asphalt road that will be reinforced and widened.

Excavating and replacing old utility lines was a challenge

Work started at the end of last year and included the construction of the road cut-outs and the construction of the storm water reservoirs. A major challenge is to replace and protect the utilities under the pavement. Mr Szentgyörgyi said that during the construction work, the old utility lines running in the ground had to be dug up by hand in several places to find out where they ran and what their purpose was without damaging them.

Construction to be completed in August

For the construction of the new road network, around 5,500 tonnes of asphalt were delivered from the asphalt mixing plant of Colas Út Zrt. Dunaharaszti to the construction site.

Three roads will be paved with raised kerbs, while the new truck parking area of around 2,000 square metres will be paved with flagstones.

Colas's technicians also installed the rainwater drainage and street lighting throughout the work area. In addition to replacing the utilities under the pavement, a retaining wall will be built at the end of the road. The project will be completed in August 2024.
