For the time being, cyclists are using the existing public roads, as well as embankment paths and service roads.

Although no dedicated cycle path is being built along one section of the almost 40-kilometre-long Ráckeve Ring Road, the Pest Megye Önkormányzata has taken a step towards safer cycling. According to a public procurement notice published a few days ago, 4.4 kilometres of cycle-friendly service roads are to be constructed between Ráckeve and Szigetbecse. The contract was awarded to Föld-út 99 Útépítő és Szolgáltató Kft. for 123.9 million forints.

The new cycle route is being built on the existing road infrastructure

A tarmac-surfaced service road, which can also be used by cyclists, is being built on the northern section of the flood defence embankment between Ráckeve and Makád. The project is taking place between Ráckeve and Szigetbecse, between kilometre markers 9+184 and 13+576 of secondary flood defence embankment No. 02.07. During construction, a total section of 4,392.36 metres will be made suitable for cycling.

The existing infrastructure will be utilised during the development. The layer of crushed stone laid during the previous embankment stabilisation works will serve as the sub-base for the new road surface. The asphalt surface will be laid on top of this,

This creates a surface on the crest of the embankment where, alongside the maintenance vehicles of the Middle Danube Valley Water Management Directorate, cyclists can also travel.

The new carriageway will be 1.88 metres wide, flanked on both sides by 50-50-centimetre verges constructed using M22 mechanical stabilisation.
