Road building
Festive moments - The section of the rebuilt main road 441 between Nagykőrös and Kecskemét was opened
The aim of the Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium investment is to make transport safer in the Cegléd-Nagykőrös-Kecskemét area and reduce travel time between the cities.
Comprehensive development: 10 kilometres of capacity expansion, road upgrading and new roads
The works were carried out on a 10-kilometre section of road from February 2022. Local road surface replacements were carried out on the Bács County section of the 441 main road. The main road was widened to 2×2 lanes on a 2.79-kilometre section from the northern bypass of Kecskemét on the 445 to the Mathiász Primary School in Katonatelep. Service roads and cycle paths were also built along the entire length of this section. In addition, the 7.29-kilometre section between the northern bypass of Kecskemét on the 445 and Téglagyári Street in Nagykőrös was renovated by Colas Út Zrt..
Signalised junctions also help safer traffic
On the Pest county section between sections 17+265-18+205 km, 11.5 tonnes of pavement reinforcement was carried out and a completely new track structure was built from the earthwork level to the ground stabilisation level.
On the section from the Soldiers' Depot to the end section, a signalized intersection was constructed at the six crossing streets. In addition, a pedestrian crossing with traffic lights, five pairs of bus bays and three road junctions have been completed.
Rarely used technology was also used in the project
The total project will use 56 820 tonnes of asphalt. On the Pest county road section, the Colas specialists used a technology rarely used in Hungary, the cold remix process. The idea was to rebuild the still usable asphalt recovered from the worn-out road structure by mixing it with binder and water to form the cementitious remix base layer. The new asphalt track structure was placed on top of this.
Development linking the counties
The event was also attended by the region's Members of Parliament, Attila Körtvélyesi, Mayor of Nagykőrös and Klaudia Szemereyné Pataki, Mayor of Kecskemét.
<Tamás Gyula Széberényi, Member of Parliament for the 2nd single-member constituency of Bács-Kiskun County, said that the opening of the 441 highway opens a new chapter in the transport between Nagykőrös and Kecskemét. In his speech, he stressed that the 441 road connects not only towns but also counties, with thousands of people travelling to work and taking their children to school every day.
He added that this development is also essential for the further economic development of the region, as the existence of an efficient and modern transport network is a prerequisite for the latter. Among the road developments in the area, he mentioned the construction of the M44 expressway, which is moving ahead at a rapid pace, will facilitate transport in a wider region and will also cross the newly upgraded road.
László Földi, Member of Parliament for the 12th single-member constituency of Pest County, highlighted in his welcome speech that the more than 10-kilometre-long section was renovated with domestic funds. He expressed his hope for the continuation of the improvements in Pest County on the section of the main road 441 between Nagykőrös and Cegléd.
Road 441 development may continue and new bypasses are planned
Zoltán Juhász, head of the ÉKM Road Investment Management Department, said that the development of the 441 highway was a complex project. Seven kilometres of pavement were reinforced and three kilometres of the road were widened to 2×2 lanes. Three roundabout junctions were created, one of which was built as a turbo roundabout at Katonatelep. Service roads and cycle paths were constructed along the entire project section.
The project was completed with a net investment of HUF 9.3 billion. Planting work is still to be carried out along the road section. Zoltán Juhász also said that a major section of the M44 motorway is scheduled to be opened to traffic in the spring. He also added that major planning work is under way in the area, including the reinforcement of the pavement of the section of the 441 main road between Nagykőrös and Cegléd, and the bypass of the two towns.
