MKIF: The replacement of the Pentele bridge over the Danube at Dunaújváros starts

On the section of the M8 motorway between Dunavecse and Dunaújváros, maintenance work planned for this year will begin on the 1,682-metre-long Pentele Bridge over the Danube, which is essential to ensure that traffic continues to be safe , announced Magyar Koncessziós Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. (MKIF) in a statement on Monday. 

The half-lane closure will start on Tuesday, the statement said.

The structure, which was inaugurated in 2007, last had its mud replaced 13 years ago. During periodic bridge inspections, anomalies were found in some structural elements that adversely affected the expected life of the existing spans. Therefore, the replacement of several of the piles and the dilatation structure has become necessary this year.

The MKIF specifically pointed out that the bridge is currently in a safe and stable condition, but as with any engineering structure, parts of a bridge can wear out. Bridges under the company's management are regularly inspected by bridge engineers.
