The Duna Aszfalt has won a contract to build a bypass in the Czech Republic

The Prestice bypass in the Czech Republic will be built with the participation of Duna Aszfalt Zrt.. According to European public procurement data, the 5.17 km, two-lane road will be constructed by a consortium led by the Czech company VALCANO a.s., which includes Duna Aszfalt Zrt. and another Czech company, Silnice Klatovy a.s.

According to the announcement, the western bypass of the municipality in the Plzen area will be realised by relocating the I/27 main road. The new road will connect to the section of I/27 between Slovice and Prestice near Plzen, which was opened in 2023. The new route will require the contractors to cross several small watercourses, two railway lines and a motorway.

20,000 cars a day will be removed from the municipality

The investment officially began after the foundation stone laying ceremony was held on 17 March, according to a report by the online newspaper zdopravy.cz online newspaper. According to statements made at the event, the relocation of Road I/27 will relieve congestion in the crowded town, reducing transit traffic by up to 20,000 vehicles per day.

Speaking at the press conference, Transport Minister Martin Kupka stressed that bypasses are often more important than motorways in improving the quality of life in small towns and villages. Radek Mátl, head of the Czech Road and Motorway Directorate (ŘSD), stressed that the project would also allow, among other things, the doubling of the Plzen-Klatovy railway line.
