Construction of the wearing course on the new section of the M4 is underway

The project of the M4 motorway between Törökszentmiklós and Kisújszállás is at an advanced stage, both on the new section and on the sections of the former main road to be four-laned. The Duna Aszfalt Projekt Zrt. project will add a total of 34.29 km to the M4 motorway, which was previously built from the capital to Törökszentmiklós. The Építési és Közlekedési Minisztérium project will be split into three parts: the bypass between Törökszentmiklós and Kisújszállás will be extended (8.1 and 8.7 km), while the section between the two settlements will be built on a new route for 17.5 km.

Motorists can take possession of the junction at Törökszentmiklós in the summer

According to Miklós Nicoara, the head of the construction department, the bypass section of the Turkish-Miklós bypass has been shifted to the newly built left lane; the construction of the right lane is currently underway and the noise barriers are completed. The wearing course and the final traffic engineering will be completed in June, after which traffic will return to the completed right lane to complete the left lane.

A major subproject of this section is the törökszentmiklós junction, where the asphalt binder course has been completed, and the asphalt slopes are currently being humified, soil preparation, and embankment and trench formation works are being carried out. "In June, the wearing course and final traffic engineering works will be completed at the junction," said Miklós Nicoara.

"We expect to open the junction to road traffic in mid-July, once the temporary opening procedure is completed."

Construction works on the new 17.5 km of the new route between the Törökszentmiklós bypass and the Kisújszáll bypass and connecting structures have been completed, with the exception of two existing road crossings. In the latter locations, work may resume after the spring relaying.

Construction of the new SMA-11 asphalt wearing course is currently underway. The humming and grassing of the grass verges and horizontal surfaces is ongoing. In parallel with the asphalt wearing course, the construction of the embankment, the ribbon barrier and the wildlife fence are also underway.

New route for the 4204 road

The Chief Architect also reported on the works at three junctions on this stretch. At the surjányi simple rest area, the kerb construction and paving works at 90 % were completed, the asphalt wearing course construction started at the end of May, followed by the finishing works.

At the Armenian junction, the asphalt wearing course between the two roundabouts is already finished and the traffic engineering is underway; the CKT road base is being constructed at the existing road junction.

Traffic on the Örményes-Fegyvernek road, which crosses the M4 under construction, is expected to be diverted to the new route to the junction at the end of June.

Driving on the new road on the Kisújszáll bypass in June

The curbing works on the left side of the Ski junction and complex rest area are completed, the asphalt binder course is finished. On the right side of the rest area, the earthworks and road base are under construction, and asphalt paving and curbing works have also started.

According to information provided from the bypass in Kisújszállás, the asphalt wearing course and traffic engineering on the right lane is complete. The temporary placing in traffic procedure has started on this section,

The transfer is expected to take place in June on the newly built right track.

Significant progress on the background infrastructure

According to Miklós Nicoara, over the entire section asphalting works will be closely followed by embankment construction, finalization of the construction of the gullies, as well as the humming and grassing of the gullies, the tidying up of the external areas and the construction of the game fence.

Stormwater drainage is also at an advanced stage: culverts, longitudinal drains and cross channels for the main line and crossing roads are complete. Utility construction is showing similar progress: gas replacement works are complete, drinking water and waste water and electricity substructure works are also complete, as is the street lighting at the junction in Turökszentmiklós. In the Kisújszállás complex rest area on the left side, the street lighting has also been completed.

Not only the motorway is a step forward for transport in the region

A major part of the project involves the upgrading of five connecting roads in the area. Among them are the

• the road 32126 connecting Óballá to Törökszentmiklós;
• and a 2.5 km section of road 42103 (i.e. Kossuth Street from Törökszentmiklós) between the main road 46 and the M4 junction at Törökszentmiklós.

In addition, the rehabilitation of two sections of the 4204 road between the villages of Örményes and Fegyvernek has started, for a length of about 3.5 km.

The last section of the M4 to be completed by the end of July

Our newspaper received a separate report from Attila Duleba, the chief architect of the bridge construction, on the works being carried out on the section of the M4 in question. According to these, the structure of the bridges of the crossing roads planned for the area of the Törökszentmiklós bypass has been completed, the crossing roadway crossings and the finishing works are underway. The structure of the bridges for the crossing roads on the new track under construction has also been completed and the finishing works have started.

Two wildlife crossings are under construction in the same area: one (B1264) is being completed, while the other has steel supports and a mule track slab is being built.

The latter will also help to complete the last trackbed of the M4 section in question by the end of July.

New bridges over railway lines completed

As further milestones of the project, the bridges of the Armenian junction and the Southern junction have been completed and the technical handover of these could start in June.

A highlight of the project is the bridge spanning the main channel of the Nagykunság, where the superstructure is already being constructed, reaching the 85% completion level at the end of May. Insulation and finishing works are also underway; while the embankment and bank protection works are already completed.

Finally, we were informed about the artifacts of the Kisújszállás bypass. According to this, the bridge over the 102 railway line connecting Kisújszállás with Kál-Kápolná has been completed, and the technical handover of the section is in progress. During the summer, the existing bridge (on the left track) will also have its wearing course and bridge supports renewed. At the same stage, the bridge over the Budapest-Debrecen 100 railway line is also in the technical handover phase, and the track structure of the left track bridge is also being renewed as part of the project. The transfer to both rail structures will take place in June, in coordination with the opening of the newly built Kisújszállás bypass right track.
